What is Solana Monkey Business?
Solana Monkey Business (SMB) is one of the first PFP NFT (Profile Picture NFT – NFT used as avatar) sets on Solana.
” Solana Monkey Business was founded on August 3, 2021 for 2 SOL ($69 at the time) and includes 5,000 pixel monkeys created from 99+ traits of varying rarity.”
SMB has 4 collections:
Gen1: Launched in June 2021.
Gen2: Launched in August 2021.
Gen3: Launched in June 2023.
Legacy Collectible: Used to airdrop for those who join Discord, own the earliest Gen1, and some are collaborations between SMB and Audius.
Highlights of Solana Monkey Business
UNIQUE NFTs
SMB is one of the few PFP NFT projects still in existence that has a strong community. Among the collections, the most notable is Gen2.
Each Gen 2 NFT is created from a unique combination of 99 characteristics, making no two NFTs the same. Additionally, Gen2 metadata is stored on Arweave’s storage solution.
MonkeDAO

MonkeDAO was founded shortly after Gen2 launched for SMB holders, launching Gen3 to fund loan repayments to SOL Big Brain.
Specifically, in February 2023, MonkeDAO bought back the copyright, as well as all SMB assets from the Hadeswap platform on Solana for 2 million USD. This proposal reached 97% of people in agreement. Previously, Hadeswap acquired SMB in February 2023.
Gen1 has four themes: Monkanician, Astromonkey, Monkos, Monkalien and a limited supply of 205 total.
Anyone holds all four themed NFTs is entitled to royalties on Gen2 transactions.
